Barcelona - full day 2
Up and raring to go for another day. Really fun being so downtown - Mia-Rose loves staring out the window at all the commuters and traffic going past. It's brilliant for people watching. Uno croissant and chocolate caliente and we're off, baby asleep in the buggy, marching to our first stop - Sagrada Familia. You can see the building from all over the city, and on approach it's pretty incredible. Beautiful (and almost a bit grotesque in size and design, but I'm certainly no architect...). As we walked in, Max's eyes were on stalks and he said "wow I love this building". And it felt like baby sensory for her, all the shapes and colours. It's amazing. But fast forward 20 mins and both small people started to get bored, so we whizzed around and saw the highlights before moving on. Max super tired today, so Lewis took him back to the apartment for some chilled TV and catch up time. It's been a lot for him. Paula, Simon and I took the baby for a walk (and another sleep) to see the Arc de Triomf and parks, and we fell upon a botanical garden which provided a bit of needed shade. We kept walking almost until the water and headed for the gothic quarter where we saw some of the Roman settlements that the city is built on. We then went for a delicious tapas lunch - octopus, artichoke, cod and egg on toast, and Mia-Rose loved being in the highchair and waving at the waiters who were all making a big fuss of her. She enjoyed a ham and cheese croquette while we tried the vermouth they make in-house. Back to the apartment via an ice cream shop (with a race to get home before everything melted) then some chill time in the rooms and by the rooftop pool with Max and his new crocodile water squirter. Beautiful area up here, almost wish we had another day to just sit and enjoy it! As we had babysitters, Lewis and I had our only night out to ourselves this trip and it was a real treat - we went back to the gothic quarter for drinks before heading to a really lovely food hall with lots of greenery and twinkly lights for more tapas, this time things like local pork cannelloni and broad bean salad. Walk back in the dark enjoying the atmosphere and made the most of being out the house past 8pm!! Fab day.
