Eurocamp to Valencia

Another of those "I can't believe we made it from A to B" days. Huge storms all night, thunder rumbling and rain hammering on the roof so everyone was a bit unsettled. Up and once again against the clock to get packed/sorted/in the car. Thankfully we caught her first nap, and headed to our halfway spot in peace. Big shopping centre - space for Max to run around and burn off energy and us to sample the local delicacy (McDonalds, bloody delicious). Back in the car, Lewis did incredible driving to Valencia navigating super busy roundabouts and a stressed out Airbnb owner on the phone who we couldn't find. Eventually got into our new place - incredible location, opposite the Ciudad De Las Artes Y Las Ciencias (science museum and expo region). It is absolutely beautiful here - everything is huge, clean and modern. Reminds me of the Sydney Opera House. Just amazing to look at and walk around. Explore with the two of them giggling in the buggy, ice cream stop, quick park trip and back to the accommodation. Should mention - very kid friendly on first look with a little playroom/bedroom, but so far in said room we have found a bowl of marbles and a pot with two stanley knives in it...... luckily Max found both things before she did. We're doing something different for the two nights we're here - in order to make the most of the short amount of time we have, each of us are having our own evenings out. Tonight is mine - I walked the hour through the old river bed that runs through the city, that was rerouted to avoid flooding and is now a beautiful green space full of fountains, outdoor theatres and people running and enjoying the outdoors. I walked past a group dancing freely to live African music on drums and it was so fun to watch. I walked through the Torres de Serranos into the old town, found the cathedral, and ate tapas in an incredible restaurant. Funny being on my own but a treat to be out and able to soak it all in solo. Feel like I'm missing my limbs though - noone to carry and a mostly empty backpack. Spent my evening googling "how to move to Valencia" - a girl can dream.

We both felt dog-tired on wake up; the pair of them were rolling around on the bed and we could hardly keep our eyes open! She spent the day being cross - wanted to be carried all the time and was squaking at the three of us. She's just in the last few days started to want to put her feet down and is not far off pulling up to standing, so I think there's lots going on in her busy little brain. Brekkie, park, her nap, Lewis and Max played mechanics and took the car to get air for tyres and diesel, then to the pool for opening at 11am as rain due all afternoon and we wanted to catch the decent bit of weather. He was running around having a blast, in and out the water, singing along to the "move it move it" song from Madagascar. She is happiest watching him. Home for leftover BBQ and she had another sleep - he was saying he was really tired so tried to put him down but he wanted to chill in bed with me. Barcelona to Eurocamp

Today did not get the "fab day" memo.  Final morning in the apartment - another round of washing/fridge clearout/repacking bags and the car.  More chocolate cilante and pastries (apparently Mia-Rose is a croissant girl) in the cafe before heading to the English bookshop a short walk away to pick up some new reading for the next part of our trip and a puzzle to add to Max's Trunki toy collection.  Clever car manoeuvring again by Lewis to get us out of central town and on the road. 1 hour 20 for the journey, timed with her lunchtime nap, which worked perfectly thank goodness as he crashed out as well. Although I always panic going through the tolls that one of them will wake up and it'll be game over!  Weather turned from clouds, to rain, to downpour to thunder and lightning very quickly. Barcelona - full day 1

Slowish morning at the apartment - Lewis went out for a run and got majorly lost. Max is loving running up and down the corridor being chased by Mia-Rose. Avocado, tomato, oil, salt and garlic on toasted bread for brekkie. First stop - Park Guell. Super steep and hot walk to get there through not an overly nice part of town. But found shady spots inside and beautiful architecture with views out over the city. Great little play area for Max and he enjoyed looking for the "colourful lizard". Back for some cooling off time in the house, salads for lunch. Back out, this time on the metro, first time navigating that with them both and the buggy. Got off at Las Ramblas, gorgeous time of day with the sun steaming through the trees on the main strip but less intense heat. Had a wander through the gothic quarter and had a drink in a square. Absolutely love this part of town. Music and performers for Max to watch, he was transfixed, and passers by were chatting and kicking his footbal...
